The Gulf Society for Maintenance and Reliability celebrates Global Maintenance Day and calls for enhancing operational excellence and asset sustainability.

The Gulf Society for Maintenance & Reliability (GSMR) emphasized the vital role of maintenance as a fundamental pillar for ensuring business continuity, enhancing safety, and supporting sustainable development across various sectors and services.

The society invited companies and institutions in the region to participate in celebrating Global Maintenance Day, which falls annually on June 9, in conjunction with the activities of the Global Forum for Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM), which will be celebrated this year under the slogan: "Maintenance Today... For Tomorrow's Sustainability."

In line with the vision of the wise leadership of the Gulf region, the society emphasized that the countries of the region have adopted a philosophy that makes maintenance not only a pillar for preserving systems and equipment, but also the foundation for achieving operational excellence. This has led to the region's institutions and assets becoming pioneers in various sectors and services globally. The society also explained that effective maintenance enhances asset efficiency, supports institutional resilience, and aligns with the latest technological developments, including artificial intelligence applications and future forecasting, to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations. The importance of maintenance comes at a time when many of the region's landmark projects are transitioning from the construction phase to the operation and maintenance phase. Maintenance is crucial in ensuring the achievement of these projects' development and sustainability goals.

In a statement, Eng. Ahmed Al-Jelwah, Chairman of the Societys' Board of Directors, said: "Maintenance is one of the pillars of sustainability for any system and is the cornerstone of asset management. What reinforces its importance currently, in our region in particular, is the transition of many of the region's ambitious and developmental projects from the construction phase to the operational phase. These projects are primarily based on the fundamentals of maintenance and asset management today, which will undoubtedly drive sustainability and prosperity tomorrow."

The society commended the efforts of all maintenance personnel honored on this day, who contribute with precision and professionalism to enhancing the reliability and sustainability of assets. Through their efforts in implementing best maintenance practices, they extend the life of assets, reduce waste, and support sustainability. Adopting a proactive maintenance approach also contributes to enhancing the resilience of institutions, ensuring the continuity of services, and facing future challenges with confidence.

The society called on companies, industrial establishments, and asset management professionals to participate in Global Maintenance Day activities and contribute to spreading the culture of maintenance and reliability regionally and globally, in support of a more efficient and sustainable future.
